This is an update pertaining to this posting about the 2005 murder of Dartmouth student Meleia Willis-Starbuck. The shooter, a friend of Starbuck's, was convicted of murder and sentenced to jail time two weeks ago. The driver who drove the shooter away was sentenced to probation today.
The more I read about this story, the more twisted it sounds.
Apparently Meleia was intoxicated the night of the incident and had gotten into a small dispute with a group of football players with her friends. Insults like "bitch" and "Chewbacca" were thrown around. The football players later apologized and told Meleia to leave with her friends.
An intoxicated Meleia frantically called her close friend Christopher Hollis for help in what she perceived as a dangerous situation and told him to bring his gun.
Short story shorter: Hollis shows up with a pistol, fires at the group without seeing who he's exactly firing at, a bullet hits his friend Meleia, and she dies. Kind of hard to say whose fault it is...
