The anonymous tipster who sent the proposal to Gawker says it's penned by Bringing Down The House author Ben Mezrich, himself a Harvard grad and already the author of three books on visionary whiz kids. Face Off details the early days of Facebook founders Zuckerberg and his friend Eduardo Saverin, who apparently started the site to get into a Final Club and get laid. But this is by far the best part:
They dined with royalty, partied with rock stars at private clubs in Paris, Rome, and London. They went from all-night parties at the Playboy Club in L.A. to eating koala on the yacht of the CEO of Sun Microsystems, somewhere outside of Monte Carlo.Of course, take this all with a grain of salt. Presuming the tipster is correct, Mezrich probably isn't: he's been widely discredited in the past for his "non-fiction" fabrications. And Scott McNealy, who was CEO of Sun Micro at the time, is already denying he ever had a boat. (Remember, kids: every time you obsessively check Facebook this summer, you'll probably be helping Zuck fund his forthcoming libel lawsuit.)
Just judging by this first glance at Face Off, it appears to be just too perfectly absurd, which is what makes me think it's full of crap (or at least the bit about the koala), which is really unfortunate, because I bet there are enough damning true stories of Zuck and the early F-book days to fill a New York Times bestseller.
