At his first conference this afternoon president elect Barack Obama was asked many critical questions about his nearing presidency. And no less pressing was one inquiry regarding the future "first dog" the Obama family plans on adopting. An important subject indeed.
Barack replied, "With respect to the dog, this is a major issue." And boy it is. One must remember that odd phenomenon, one that anyone wanting a dog must be wary of: owners tend to look like their dogs. And vice versa.
All I know is that I do not want a president who looks like a chihuahua, I don't care how popular that Beverly Hills movie was. What America needs right now is a strong and charismatic dog. A golden. A greyhound. Not some yippy excuse. But I am not too worried. Barack is not making this decision alone. The opinionated Obama women certainly have a say:
"One [concern] is that Malia is allergic, so it has to be hypoallergenic. There are a number of breeds that are hypoallergenic." They want something from a shelter "But, obviously, a lot of shelter dogs are mutts like me." Oh I do love his candidness. "So whether we're going to be able to balance those two things I think is a pressing issue on the Obama household"
I am glad to see that Obama is taking extra care in all of his important presidential decisions- so far his thoughfulness is impressive. But we will have to see come after the dog selection process is finished. Fortunately The Obamas are an attractive family so I have a feeling that we can count on, at least, a lovable canine.
