IU's embarrassing loss to Purdue with a final score of 62-10 this weekend was a nice enough ending to star quarterback Curtis Painter's four-year stretch at this Big Ten university. The final game of the year was also controversial coach Joe Tiller's last in his 12 seasons here with a grand total of 87 career wins for the Boilermakers.
The Old Oaken Bucket tradition is the annual Purdue-IU rival game that is sealed by the losing team handing off the traditional bucket to the winners. This year, IU had practically no chance at winning the 117th installment of Bucket lore. Not even 10 minutes into the game, the score was already 17-0. At halftime, IU managed to score some redemption, boosting the score to 41-3. By that time, some wondered if the Hoosiers were merely standing around or if they had left the field in shame.
Alas, they pulled through a few more points to the aforementioned 62-10 but not before Purdue had already claimed their Old Oaken Bucket winner title hours before.
