Why, oh why, does Roy Den Hollander hate women so much? Mommy issues, maybe?
This is the Columbia graduate who sued Columbia not long ago over there women’s studies program, which he claims is biased against men.
Last year, Den Hollander, an attorney, headed to the courts over an equally insidious practice: Ladies’ Night.
The anti-feminist claimed that Manhattan nightclubs purposefully discriminate against men by offering women discounted admission and drinks. He aimed his attack at clubs A.E.R., Lotus, Sol, China Club and the Copacaban, and he wants down with such despicable gimmicks as Remix Thursdays, velvet List Wednesdays, Models and Bottles Fridays, Metropolis Fridays, and College Party Thursdays.
What were these clubs thinking trying to lure hot women into their venues for the benefit of their male customers?
Sadly for Den Hollander, Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum threw the lawsuit out of federal court yesterday. He should have expected such blatant discrimination from a woman though. The judge said that the clubs are not representatives of the state and thus can price as they wish. Plus, I'm pretty sure there was a silent **** you in there somewhere.
But don’t worry, Den Hollander won’t just shut up and disappear (seriously, shut up and disappear!). In an interview with The New Yorker last year, he explained more of his crusade:
He reached into his pocket and produced a typed forty-one-point list headed “Discrimination against men in America.” (Sample gripes: child-custody laws, circumcision, “5% of females have borderline personality disorder.”) “What I’m trying to do now in my later years is fight everybody who violates my rights,” he continued, bringing to mind a combination of Leon Phelps, Che Guevara, and Travis Bickle.
The club was filling up as Den Hollander held forth on Title IX (“Sports isn’t a big thing to girls, but it’s a big thing to guys”), pickup tactics (“You sort of cut the person you’re after from the herd”), his personal finances (“Have you heard of the dot-com bubble?”), and his belief that “the Feminazis have infiltrated institutions, and there’s been a transfer of rights from guys to girls.”
Want more info on this gem? Head to his website (roydenhollander.com) where he exclaims: “Now is the time for all good men to fight for their rights before they have no rights left. Contact Roy to help battle the infringement of Men’s Rights by the feminists and their allies.” You can even donate to the Men’s Rights Legal Fund.
Yeah, I’m sure this guy gets all the ladies with lines like that.
