With the Democratic National Convention in full swing, everyone’s focused on the politics. We’ve heard about the issues, the speeches and the rivalries.
But what about the really important stuff – like how does this momentous political event affect the area college students?
Don’t worry, U.S. News and World Report has got us covered. According to the news site's blog The Paper Trail, the Auraria Higher Education center, which is a combined campus for the Community College of Denver, the Metropolitan State College of Denver and the University of Colorado-Denver, has canceled classes for this whole week.
Score! No classes, er, um, yay politics!
But for other college students in the area, things aren’t so rosy. The U.S. News brings us the dire news:
For students who couldn't hightail it out of convention central, life has been eye-opening but mostly frustrating. University of Colorado-Denver students have been living behind gates ("Two weeks into college, everyone left, and we're just kind of stuck," said one student), while others pulled out their walking shoes. "I can't even get my car in here," a freshman said. "Last night I had to park 8 miles away and walk. It sucked."
Sorry it sucked, we’re just trying to figure out the next president of America here.
Eh, it’s probably just a Republican whiner.
