When girls think of international students – they think of sexy Armani-clad foreigners with steamy hot accents and a weird world of knowledge unbeknownst to American culture. The international students on campus are among the hottest and most sought after for their foreign appeal, and it seems that we’ll soon be receiving a whole load of them.
Northeastern and the standardized testing moguls, Kaplan, are partnering together to create Global Pathways – a program whose sole mission is to recruit international students into US colleges. Northeastern will be the first American university to start this trend. The university will take in international students for a year so they can learn English and acclimate themselves to American life. When said year is up, the international students are guaranteed admittance into one of the university’s degree programs.
While Northeastern handles the education half, Kaplan handles everything else. Kaplan agents hook them up with places to live, organize mixers and parties and will even try to breed some Celtic fans among the Internationals by taking them on outings to their games.
Build it and they will come seems to be the attitude of American universities as Oregon State has partnered with INTO universities and will follow Northeastern with a program of their own launching in Fall 2009. INTO has recognized American students' needs to get some nookie outside the parameters of boring old Americans and is currently in discussion with several other US schools to get similar programs started all over the country.
