The Battle of the Breasts: College Edition

The Battle of the Breasts: College Edition

In Touch Magazine recently published the results of an online poll crowning Jessica Simpson the reigning champion of breasts in Hollywood.

In the college world, breasts are still an issue in the arena of body image. Boys love em' and girls continue to get plastic surgery to get, bigger, plumper, and juicer breasts. What is this obsession with all things mammary? Are college-aged women considering the risks and issues of silicone or saline bags unceremoniously squashed beneath the skin (watch a breast augmentation surgery and you'll get my drift)?

Even Elle magazine did a beauty feature titled "Terms of Endowment," outlining the shelf life and the adverse affects of getting a breast augmentation. Implants don't have a set expiration date; but you must keep a keen eye on the implants for changes in the shape, texture, and feel on the implants.

If you get one pair, it won't be your last.

If you plan to keep them in for good, you might need about three touch-ups through your lifetime -- and that's only if nothing goes wrong.

So, before you start getting lost in a silicone-cloud, consider the ramifications of the surgery.

Although many may think they know the risks of breast implants, the truth is that the general public only knows the tip of the iceberg (because that's all the media typcially portrays). Thank you for writing about the risks of augmentation. I myself was a 19 year old college student when I chose to get breast implants and I've regretted it ever since. You can read what I went through at www.implantsout.com. Posted 07/08/2008 12:46 PMReply

Breast implants are ridiculous-looking and unnecessary: http://plasticsergeant.com/home/breast-surgery/breast-augmentation
Women need to learn to get their self-respect from other places than from the approval of men.
