Gary Barnett Brings His Shadiness Back To NU Football
It’s shocking, really, that AD Mark Murphy and HC Pat Fitzgerald didn’t treat  former Head Coach Gary Barnett (1992-’98) like he had leprosy when he  was on hand to observe practices up at Northwestern’s football summer facilities in Camp Kenosha.

Some of Barnett's major problems at Colorado are anathema to collegiate athletics. During his tenure as head coach of the Buffaloes:

1)    At least six rape allegations were made against players.
2)    In response to an assertion by Katie Hnida, a former CU kicker, that she had been raped, harassed and molested by her former teammates, called her an “awful” player who “couldn’t kick the ball through the uprights.”
3)    Was alleged to have used sex and alcohol to recruit players.

He is, however, the same head coach that had huge success at the head of the Wildcat program, even leading them to a Rose Bowl. But winning doesn't usually get you off the hook...or out of the leper colony.

Exactly the kind of role model you’d want at training camp, right?

Lopsided reporting. Barnett did not commit rape nor was anyone ever found guilty and the female kicker was a terrible kicker, not because she was a female but because she could not kick the ball through the upright. There were many better female kickers. As far as offering sex, i just don't believe it. Newspapers love to jump on stories to tear people down. I rather believe the courts and a person being innocent. Posted 11/30/2007 2:00 PMReply
