Best (and Worst) Sushi Places in Gainesville

Best (and Worst) Sushi Places in Gainesville

Gainesville might be a small town but it is not lacking in the delicious eateries department. If you like good sushi, there are tons of great places in town. Here are the top three:

  1. Shooting Star. It’s located downtown right across from Common Grounds. Like most of the sushi places in Gainesville, it’s moderately priced and there is great friendly service. But best of all the sushi is delicious! Try the Mango Salmon Roll. You’ll thank me later.
  2. Bento Café. This is the closest thing you’ll get to fast food sushi but it’s better than you would think. They have awesome variety for a really low price. This is a good place to go if you don’t have time for a nice sit down dinner or you have sushi three times a week.
  3. Dragonfly Sushi and Sake Company. If you are in the mood for a nice sit down dinner, Dragonfly is the best place to go. Sushi price ranges much more but you can spend a lot or a little and love every single bite. But don’t take my word for it, our star quarterback was spotted having dinner there Monday night and you can’t go wrong with Timmy Tebow’s seal of approval.

If you want to avoid food poisoning or at the very least a really gross meal avoid these places:

  1. Dragonfly Rolls ‘n Bowls. This is the fast food version of Dragonfly. It’s not that much different in terms of price except that it’s gross.
  2. Chop Stix. I think the name of this place says it all. They have every Asian food imaginable and none of it great. Bad service, mediocre sushi.
  3. Sushi and Noodle Bar at the Reitz Union. Though this should go without saying, stay away from sushi on campus. This prepackaged atrocity is like the Russian roulette of food, 1 in 5 students die from it.

Now go grab those chopsticks and some eel sauce and go to town!

You're way off with regards to Rolls and Bowls. It's consistently fresh and tasty, prices are decent(and way cheaper than DF) and the staff there are great. Have you actually eaten there?

Another one for the good column is Matsuri. Ben knows his way around a roll or two. He and Dragon Fly tie for my favorites in town.

One for the bottom of the yech column is Publix sushi. After experiencing the second bout of salmonella, I decided that convenience isn't worth playing Russian Roulette with sushi.
