Can We Be Pretentious Now?
The University of California is one of the best public university systems in the world. But, it won't be for long.

According to Sunday's LA Times, the government funding that characterized the boom of the UC's as a top public system after World War II has gone the way of the inbred Dodo bird. To increase wages for underpaid teachers and staff, undergraduates will begin paying private-school-sized tuition in the coming years.

But, hey, look on the bright side: you can feel free to indulge in some well-deserved elitism. Demand the availability of caviar and filet mignon at the DLG! Accept generous grade inflation! Also, practice speaking to your man-servant with authority: "Muldoon! Load the beer bong, post-haste; I have a gala to attend. Good man!"

That's the way most private school kids behave, right?
