How 'bout that?
UF Law School Republicans and UF College Republicans, who co-sp0nsored the showing of the movie "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West" and are responsible for the controversial fliers reading "Radical Islam Wants You Dead," refuse to apologize to those offended by the fliers.
Instead, they wrote to the Alligator with their opinion: "The fliers stated that 'Radical Islam Wants You Dead.' This is a true statement."
Furthermore, the groups condemn UF administrators' actions, saying that sending "Ms. Telles-Irvin reprimands those who use [free speech] to speak the truth...an e-mail to the entire student body parroting one side's view represents a dangerous precedent for every instance when someone exercises the right to free speech."
What do you think? Are these fliers justified? Protected? Necessary? Offensive?
The groups wrote to the Alligator: "Like all other liberties, [freedom of speech] must be defended whenever challenged. We will not yield." [emphasis ours]
Sounds like a challenge to me.
Keep in mind, UF College Republicans is the same group who hosts a barbeque called "PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals" to mock the actual organization PETA: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
It doesn't seem that they're too concerned about offending anyone.
