Joe Biden Charms At University of Florida, Even Republican Gators Seeing the Light

The least talked about Joe in this election – Joe Biden – made an appearance at the University of Florida yesterday. The vice presidential candidate spoke to about 4,500 people on the Reitz Union North Lawn as a final attempt to woo the swing state.

Biden spoke about Obama’s presidential goals, like strengthening the middle class, regaining international respect and getting out of Iraq, but he succeeded mostly because he knows what UF students want to see and hear.

He started off on a good note by wearing a Gator hat upon entrance and then he brought out the flattery. As a graduate of University of Delware, Biden admitted that after watching the Gators crush the Dawgs Saturday he was glad Delware doesn’t have to face UF.

Not everyone was won over by the sweet talk though, and there was certainly a group of Republicans protesting in the back. But then again, even some conservative Gators have been charmed by the Obama phenomenon. The Alligator reports:

“I wanted to see the next vice president of the United States,” said Josh Simmons, Gators for McCain chairman.

Simmons said he voted for Obama about two weeks ago.

“I’ve seen a different John McCain than the one I signed up to work for,” he said.

Simmons said he submitted his resignation Sunday night and will no longer be chairman for the group, which has more than 1,000 members.

“I expect them to be incredibly pissed off,” he said.

McCain can't even count on the Gators for McCain? That HAS to hurt.
