There is nothing like heading down to Jacksonville for the Georgia-Florida game. The game is only half the fun, the other half is the huge-ass party. But if you can’t make it down to the game, you might as well make the best of it while in Athens. Here are a few ideas:
It’s Halloween on Friday-dress up and go out! In fact, the Cat Zip alliance is putting on a fundraiser in support of local cat rescue. Entertainment includes music, contests, and other Halloween activities. There will be refreshments and snacks too, and you can donate any amount of money you want. It’s on Friday at 8:00 at Herty field. You can walk downtown from there, and go early since practically all the bars have specials (and many have costume contests). Fahrenheit always seems to get extra crazy on Halloween.
As for the actual game day, it doesn’t start until 3:30 so you can sleep in after the long night. The best place to go watch the game is Wild Wing. It’s got a relaxed atmosphere and great food. It gets crazy too, because everyone is there for the same reason: to drink and watch football. It seems to be everyone’s favorite though, so send at least a few people early to save your seat.
If Wild Wing’s line is too long, then most of the bars will obviously have the game on. I suggest Allgood because it opens early and has a lot of booths to just sit back all day. The Georgia Theatre also plays the games every Saturday, and can seat a ton of people. Both places serve their purpose: cool atmosphere, comfortable, lots of seating, and alcohol.
So don’t get down if you can’t make it to Jacksonville, with Halloween and all of the cool bars in Athens, you can still have a good time while cheering on the Dawgs.
