The mile-high city is going that extra mile to make a good impression during the Democratic National Convention.
You know what doesn’t make a good impression? Dirty, unhappy homeless people.
So rather than create more programs to help them finding housing and jobs, officials in Denver are sweeping the homeless under the rug, at least for the weekend.
According to the Los Angeles Time’s blog Top of the Ticket, the officials “arranged for free movie passes and bingo games to get them off the street, as well as temporary housing and free tickets to the zoo and Museum of Nature and Science.”
And now, just in case a homeless person skips out on the zoo and accidentally slips into view of a visitor, officials are offering free haircuts.
Top of the Ticket goes on to say:
No, really.
According to Rick Sallinger of the CBS TV station, Denver Human Services has been handing out coupons for free homeless haircuts.
The idea was to make the homeless feel better about themselves. And maybe then they'd get jobs or something.
Rusty Johnson told Rick he hadn't had a haircut in three or four months and, frankly, didn't much care about the Democrats caring about his appearance. "I just want to look good and feel good for myself," he said.
Either way Rusty better enjoy that haircut and temporary housing.
Once Obamamania has pulled out of town, Rusty’s back on the street disgusting the regular folks of Denver.
