Over the weekend, the Tufts Jumbos completely decimated their NECSAC field hockey rivals, the Wesleyan Cardinals, by scoring a record-setting ten goals in a single game.
Leading the Jumbos’ blitzkrieg-like offensive were junior forward Michelle Kelly, who came away with an impressive three goals and a single assist, and sophomore Tamara Brown, who also managed to pull off a hat trick in the first half of the game.
While the accomplishment is certainly laud-worthy, it’s unsurprising that the Jumbos came away with the victory, because they’re coming off an impressive season that included their first-ever victory in an NCAA tournament.
Still, Tina McDavitt, the team’s coach, isn’t letting the victory get to her head.
“Now, we have the reputation of being a solid team that can compete with anyone,” coach Tina McDavitt said. “That’s great, and it’s awesome to be recognized, but you still have to go out there and earn it every day. You’ve got to go out there and get the win. Today was a great game. … I’m excited to take it one game at a time and try to build off our success.”
Hopefully, this historic victory is a sign of things to come for the Jumbos, because if it is, an NCAA championship may be coming home in ther very near future!
