UGA Ranked Number 1, Ohio State Cries

Ohio State is eating Georgia’s dust this morning since the Associated Press released its 2008 Preseason Top 25 football poll.

After finishing the 2007 season ranked No. 2 by the AP, Georgia was not content to settle for first loser again, and this year they won’t have to. The team received 22 first-place votes and 1,528 points from the media members who participated in the poll, which places them at the top. Ohio State and USC follow close behind.

The Bulldogs are riding high this summer, considering the USA Today/Coaches Poll released Aug. 1 also picked them as number one.

So for the team, the AP’s results must be just icing on the cake. But a delicious cake of football victories and gloating rights.

The Red and Black spoke with UGA’s coach about the honor:

"To me, I can't think of another word than 'exciting,'" head coach Mark Richt told media after the practice.

Maybe a thesaurus would help?
