BSU Overcomes Fresno State for Another Undefeated Season yet may not see BCS Bowl Due to Oregon State and Utah

BSU summarily dismissed any doubts about their season by crushing Fresno, 61-10. Although the WAC championship trophy was already won last week, Coach Pete dismissed it and celebration until after the game today. After the close of the game, Boise State has successfully achieved another undefeated season with a 12-0 record. This will be the third in five years, something no other college team can currently claim.

This leads to one of the most controversial issues of college football today. BSU is ranked 9th in the nation on most college football polls, is one of three undefeated teams in the top 10 (four in the top 25) and has put on a great show in BCS bowls of the past. However, they may not make it to one of the main bowl games this year. Oregon State, a lower ranked team, is nearly a shoe in for the Rose Bowl due to their conference, provided USC goes to the Fiesta Bowl. Utah’s undefeated season guarantee’s them a wildcard bid, and it is highly unlikely the BCS will allow two BCS busters in.

I do realize that the WAC is definitely not on par with other conferences, but an undefeated season is an undefeated season. If a team does extraordinary, it should be recognized, especially considering the fact that many conferences have performed horribly this year. Perhaps with as many blowouts and upsets as Boise State has delivered some attention may be brought to the inadequacies the BCS system fails to address.

There still is a chance Boise makes it to a BCS bowl, but I’m not holding my breath. So if the most likely scenario plays out, I call nose rule on telling Ian Johnson that Big Blue wont make a bowl his senior year because only one underdog (Utah) gets a chance at inferior teams.

And don’t tell me that Roady's Humanitarian Bowl is any sort of consolation…
