Maybe Engineers Really Do Deserve Those Nice New Buildings

Two U of I researchers developed a wheelchair that moves when the operator tells it to... with his mind!! When people think of words, an electrical impulse is sent to the larynx, and this new technology transfers the signal into a computer that then controls the wheelchair.

The video pretty much explains it all, but holy shit! First of all, that's amazing for people with muscle control problems, but think of the implications!

Thought cars, thought phones, thought... pants. If thoughts are transferred to the larynx and can be detected, why couldn't some sort of radio wave receiver be able to pick up what people are thinking? It'll be like the sonic earz to the extreme!

Whether for scary thought policing a la Minority Report or for helping those with mobility problems, props go out to the Engineering program, even though those nerds are keeping us down on the party school rankings.
