Earlier today, Binghamton hosted a Locks of Love event right in Hinman. According to the official website, locksoflove.org, they are “a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.”

While unfortunately, I did not have enough hair to donate for the cause—I got to participate vicariously through my suitemate Cait. As of this morning, a 5’10, Cait had long flowing hair that covered the entirety of her back.

“I was contemplating getting a haircut over the summer,” Cait told me after her 11 inch donation of hair. “But many college campuses host locks of love events, and it’s worth the wait. It makes sense economically, as well as being for a great cause.”

If you were able to donate at least 10 inches, you got a free haircut. If not, it still only cost $5; and hey, we’ve been trapped here at Bing for months now, and chances are you’re not going to be able to get a haircut until Thanksgiving.

Cait went on to tell of her experience with Locks of Love. “I've always had long hair, and the prospect of having most of my hair chopped off was very nerve-wracking. But I was able to do something small for a good cause and I got a wonderful haircut out of it. It was a win-win situation.
