Even More Examples of How Facebook Can Screw You

Time and time again, we warn how things you put on Facebook can, and very likely will, get you in trouble. And yet, time and time again, people insist on putting stupid things on the Internet only to cause much despair.

Last week we had the Patriots cheerleader with photos posted of anti-Semitic and lewd drawings on her drunk friend. Caitlin Davis was fired from the squad. Last week also brought us the University of Texas football Player who posted a racist status following Obama’s win. Buck Burnette was kicked off the team.

This week brings us two fresh incidents to demonstrate why some, even a tiny, little bit, of discretion is a good idea when it comes to Facebook.

A handful of Charlotte, NC, teachers are in hot water after posting inappropriate content to their Facebook accounts. One may be fired for writing things such as “teaching chitlins in the ghetto of Charlotte” as one of her activities, “drinking” as one of her hobbies, and “I am teaching in the most ghetto school in Charlotte” as her about me. Four others face disciplinary action for offensive material such as pictures of the female teachers in sexually suggestive poses and a black male teacher who includes in his activities “Chillin wit my n---as!!!” Worst of all, these five teachers identified the school they worked for and left their profiles open to the public. Good move, guys, good move.

In other “Damn you, Facebook” news, a restaurant near Kennesaw State University lost its liquor license thanks to photos posted on the social networking site. The pics showed underage people drinking alcohol at the restaurant and even describing the great margaritas. The county’s alcohol enforcement unit was called into action and an undercover teen sent in. The restaurant served the minor and now won’t be serving anyone for some time.

Apparently Facebook is just the perfect accessory to a crime.
