Syracuse men's lacrosse team dominated the NCAA Championships this weekend, capturing their 10th national championship with a 13-10 victory against Johns Hopkins. CUSE knocked off the Blue Jays in front of a record 48,970 fans at Gillette Stadium.
"When you get recruited to Syracuse, you're going there to win national championships," attackman Mike Leveille told the Boston Globe.
From its first game in February, the Orangemen were determined to send its seniors out as champions. To make the final, CUSE came from five goals down to beat Virginia in double overtime. Junior midfielder Dan Hardy (Tully, N.Y.) powered the team offense with three goals en route to all-tournament team recognition. Leveille was named the tournament's most outstanding player.
"It's unbelievable," said Leveille, after third-seeded Syracuse (16-2) had become only the second team to win the title after failing to qualify for the tournament the year before. "This was the best ending possible."
