UMD Alumni Watch: Vernon Davis Gets a Scolding

This weekend, former Terp and current San Francisco 49ers tight end, Vernon Davis got some time in the spot light throughout the sports world and this time it wasn't for tossing off a DB or putting up freakish numbers in the weight room. This time he was the recipient of a furious diatribe, courtesy of his coach Mike Singletary. After a stupid personal foul in the 49ers-Seahawks game on Sunday, Singletary told Davis to hit the showers:

"I told him that he would do a better job for us right now taking a shower and coming back and watching the game than going out on the field. Simple as that."

"I'd rather play with 10 people and just get penalized all the way until we have to do something else rather than play with 11 when I know that right now that person is not sold out to be a part of this team."

Full rant here.

...Burned. At least V.D. took the heat well, saying:

"Coach Singletary told me to go sit down, and after a while, he told me to just take a shower and take it in. He's a good coach. Coach Singletary is an emotional guy, just like myself. He wants to win, and I did exactly what he told me to do. He is the head coach and I listen to him. He just told me to come in and I went in."

Anyway, its not just Vernon Davis with the problem, but rather the entire 49ers team. Maybe they should take a page out of, former Terrapin, Josh Wilson's book, who had a huge interception return for a touchdown yesterday against the Niners and- hold the phone! Who's the only person on the Niners' offense running J-Dub down? Vernon Davis...
