There's a lot going on this time of year as far as Terrapin Sports goes - ACC Tournament play, basketball scrimmages, and, of course, arrests/suspensions. So, rather than devote one post per item, I figured I'd round them all up in one big sports recap.
Men's Soccer: For the first time since 2006, the boys are back in the ACC semifinals. Posting up their 9th straight win last Wednesday, the Terps moved past the UNC Tarheels in the quarterfinals and are now slated to play the winner of the Clemson/Boston College game in the semifinals.
Field Hockey: The ACC Champion Terps have pulled the No. 1 seed in this years NCAA tournament. The Terps will host No. 20 Albany at 11:30am on Saturday. No. 5 Connecticut and No. 8 Duke will play following at 2pm. The winners of these matches will play in the second round at 2pm on Sunday. Go out and support the Terps as they go for three National Championships in four years.
Men's Basketball: The Terps dropped 106 points against Northwood this past Saturday, who were only able to muster up 60 of their own. The real story here however, is that the recently cleared Jin Soo "Knife" Kim (I'm taking credit for that nickname) sliced and diced under the hoop for 20 points in his debut.
Football: After a shameful loss in Virginia Tech last Thursday, Senior linebacker, Rick Costa, has been suspended indefinitely after an altercation outside of Cornerstone last Saturday.
From the Diamondback:
According to the county police report, the fight began at 2:25 a.m. when two Cornerstone bouncers denied Costa and two other men entry to the bar, saying it was closed. After exchanging words, the intoxicated and disorderly Costa hit both bouncers in the face before another employee was able to push him away from the two victims.
An on-duty police officer witnessed the fighting and approached the scene. The officer identified himself to Costa, who then struck the officer in the face and eye, injuring him. The officer then subdued Costa with pepper spray.
Wow. This is offensive. I mean, the bars aren't open past 2:30am!?
Anyway, this has been a UMD Sports Recap.
