University of Colorado System Approve LGBT Community

In a huge step for the LGBT Community, the University of Colorado has decided to award funding to an LGBT center, The Colorado Daily reports. The organization, which has been at the University for 13 years, will now have support funding and can now afford to have salaried staff and paid student staff positions.

The LGBT center is excited for all the possibilities this means for the campus (rightfully so), including making the community more tolerant and providing a safe place for LGBT students to meet. They also gain a number of other benefits:

The Legislative Council vote also established an annual budget of $62,066 in student fees to be used to support the new cost center. Contributions will begin at the onset of the new fiscal year in July. With the additional support GLBT receives from private fundraising and from the offices of the CU provost and the vice chancellor for student affairs, the center will now have a total annual budget of more than $160,000.

The executives, as well as 20 people who showed up to speak and show support, all gave generous applause when the legislation was passed.

Congratulations, University of Colorado! Here's to a more tolerant tomorrow.
