Why Can't We Have Cool Speakers?

According to the United Press International, Michigan hosted the Dalai Lama last Sunday. Seriously? The Dalai Lama? I once dressed up as him for Halloween!

In all seriousness, why can't Maryland get together a good speaker or two? I know Mike Wilbon, aka "The Man", is speaking later this month, but let's be honest, he's no Dalai Lama.

You'd think a major state school with 30,000 students would be able to pull in a big name speaker. And before you go on talking about how Obama came this semester, that was his decision and he did it to get votes. So no credit to Maryland.

Shouldn't someone be looking into this?

why is this maryland news showing up on the michigan blog? yes, we had the dalai lama speak at our campus, and no, you and your university isn't entitled to "big name speakers" just because its a "major state school with 30,000 students".. sorry to be critical, but damn it stop tagging articles with "university of michigan" if no michigan students need to read it (im directing this at collegeotr bloggers in general)...
