Ten reasons from a Michigan State Spartan fan and alumni of why I won’t be within 50 miles of Ann Arbor for Saturday’s annual gridiron clash between MSU and Michigan:
10) I prefer the streets of East Lansing.
9) Michigan Stadium is a terrible place to watch a football game as a visitor – you’re so far away, you may as well sit at home and watch on your big screen with a six pack close at hand and just a few paces from the john.
8) For that matter, why watch at home: enjoy the wonderful smell and taste of a Border Burger with Swiss on Rye at the Peanut Barrel.
7) The need to be around more Green and White and to avoid the Blue and Yellow – especially if the Spartans lose.
6) When attending Michigan tailgates, make sure you pack your caviar and champagne, your pinky finger is up, your nose is firmly directed to the skies. As opposed to MSU tailgates, where the prerequisites are Pabst Blue Ribbon and close proximity to the head.
5) Ann Arbor Arrogance is enough to stay away from the University of Michigan any day during the fall, but it gets so high it spills over the kettle during the annual MSU-UM tilt
4) The windy, angled streets of Ann Arbor make for a disastrous traffic situation in and out of that city during football game days.
3) More time to spend at home with family and kids.
2) I hate Michigan fans.
1) I want to celebrate in East Lansing with the Spartan community when we finally beat the Wolverines into submission. Watching Grand River Avenue fill with thousands of fans gleaming with Spartan pride will be a wonderful sight to behold.
