“Campus Elites” Vote for Who is Most Elite, Hilarity Ensues

Notorious UW blogger the Critical Badger has launched the "2008 UW-Madison Campus Elite tournament."  After getting sh*t for his frequent use of the term "campus elite," which some say sounds pompous, and to satisfy voracious reader hunger for said tournament, the CB delivered.

Professor Jean Twenge froths at the mouth.

To be fair, I’ll add that the CB (as the cool kids call him) certainly consists of mostly quality posts of much greater substance—as he’d be the first to tell you…c’mon, CB, I kid--about campus and city politics, crime, etc., and the tournament is strictly for “the lulz” he says.

So who are the “campus elite” you ask?  CB calls them the "small percentage of students [who are] constantly involved in the leadership/upper-echelons of organizations that tried to make a difference on campus…a set of highly connected, influential student leaders at UW-Madison who can use this power for good… or for evil…"  Some campus editors students would argue CB uses his for the latter.  I say it’s a glorious mix of both.  Plus we love the CB for giving OTR props.  We're easily bought.

He adds, “the term ELITE does not mean you are BETTER than someone else. In fact, for many, it means you’re worse."

The tournament is an excellent mix of sheer absurdity, hilarity, WTF-ness, and I guess there's even some truth in there. I still can't decide whether I should be disgusted or amused.
