Columbia Outlaws Smoking Paraphernalia, Eating Near PCs, Eventually Fun

Last May, Columbia University updated the student handbook to make smoking in all dormitories illegal, and that’s not the only thing the administration took the opportunity to outlaw.

From the “Guide to Living”:

Smoking devices including, but not limited to, hookas & water pipes, other pipes, and vaporizers are prohibited in all undergraduate housing property and surrounding area.

Yes – this includes bongs.

Based on the wording in the handbook though, it sounds like anything that can be used to smoke is banned. Considering people can make bongs out of apples, does this mean certain fruit are illegal too?

Hmm -- maybe not, but eating them near public computers sure is.

The BWOG reports:

In other crackdown news, one Bwog staffer was removed by security this morning for eating some delightful breakfast treats in a Lerner computer lounge. The no-eating policy in the computer lounges is nothing new, but now it seems it's actually being enforced, which is just awful.

If this keeps up, eventually everything, sans studying and – maybe – sleeping, will become illegal on campus.

Why does Columbia hate freedom?
