Not just content with the term "ugliest buildilng ever" being thrown around here and there, the Boston City Hall was entered into a contest by VirtualTourist.com and actually has now won the title of the worst looking building in the world. Here’s what they had to say:

“While it was hip for it’s time, this concrete structure now gets routinely criticized for its dreary facade and incongruity with the rest of the city’s more genteel architecture. Luckily, it’s very close to more aesthetically pleasing attractions.”

When were monolithic and horribly depression prison-like structures hip? This looks like it should be enslaving the galaxy’s supervillains or something. The mayor of Boston has wanted to move the city hall for years, but much like everyone else in the country, has no money to do so.

Check out the above gallery to see just how horrendously ugly this thing really is.

Hehe, thanks for bringing back the memories. I used to see this so called building everytime I got off the MBTA Blue Line at Government Center. Looking at your pics, kind of looks like an upside down pyramid. Posted 11/17/2008 5:12 PMReply

Don't know about this. These photos make this building look interesting--more interesting, in fact, and not necessarily uglier, than many government buildings I've seen. It's refreshing not to see one more overpowering dome with its quasi-religious symbolism set above a row of oversized columns. Yeah, this is not lovely, but neither is government.
