Football Team Takes another Hit: Justin Boren Quits Team

Things are not shaping up to be promising for Rich Rodriguez and the Michigan offense. It was reported tonight that upcoming Junior Guard Justin Boren, otherwise known as the huge offensive linemen who wears #65, has quit the team. Sources do not yet know the reason for his decision, but either way, it’s bad. He would have been one of only two returning starters on the offensive line for this upcoming season, and now only Steve Shilling remains.

Thankfully Michigan did a great job recruiting offensive linemen this off-season, but we may have one of the most inexperienced offenses in the country. We lost our top two receivers, our top running back, top two quarterbacks, four offensive linemen and more. It’s going to be a challenge, but this may be what Rich Rodriguez needs. With so much inexperience, he will have a chance to mold the team the way he wants. With that, obviously comes growing pains, and it is more than likely this upcoming season will be a struggle for both players and fans (but not graduate students).

Boren’s decision only adds more pressure to the Michigan defense. They are expected to carry the team during this season while the offense gets adjusted. Hopefully the system catches on quickly with the new players and we can contend for a Big Ten Title in the 2009 season.

Update: Boren sent in a statement to the Associated Press. Since we're sort of like that, here's what he had to say.
