The Screen Actors Guild will honor former University of Michigan student James Earl Jones with the Life Achievement Award. The ceremony will take place on January 25... so you've got time to prepare the festivities.
Jones is famous for his booming voice, which he used to bring to life Darth Vader in the Star War films as well as Mufasa in The Lion King, to name a few. His voiceover work is all the more impressive considering he was functionally mute for eight years, until a high school teacher mentored him. Jones has also appeared in such films as such as Field of Dreams, Sandlot, Patriot Games, The Hunt For Red October, and Clear and Present Danger.
But before all the fame, Jones was pre-med at Michigan where he was also a part of ROTC. Eventually he decided he no longer wanted to be a doctor and left college without a degree. Clearly, graduating from Michigan is not really all that necessary. Just ask Michael Phelps… he’ll get back to you after America’s done drooling over him (in about 5 more minutes).
