Further Proof Americans Are Misunderstood
Live and Learn. For instance, mess up a school's colors and mascot, then fix it and come up with a slogan that took more than five minutes to write, including translation.

If you peruse Facebook enough, you'll find the group “Out of Staters That Hate When People Mix Up Michigan State and Michigan”. Thinking Michigan and Michigan State are equal is like thinking your high school football team could take Big Blue. It's silly, ludicrous, and insulting to our fine university.

Recently a tip was received showing this t-shirt being sold at superstores in the United Kingdom (specifically Northern Ireland). Given enough thought and awareness of the area, it should slowly dawn on you that whoever made this shirt confused Michigan with Eastern Michigan University. This is like confusing a guy for his younger brother that's shorter, hairier, and in jail for robbing an old lady on the street. If transposing Michigan and Michigan State is a big mixup, getting it wrong between EMU and Big Blue is a mistake the size of which our dear English language doesn't have an adjective for.

Since the shirt was made in Pakistan, you have to wonder if the maker visited Ypsilanti, saw EMU, and just assumed that every state in the union only gets one university. Or, maybe he's just a genius. This shirt stands out as some of the most unique technically U of M apparel you can own. Like a baseball card with a misspelled name, a U of M t-shirt with Eastern Michigan styling and a ridiculously generic slogan underneath could be really valuable to someone.

Actually no.  The maker just messed up, and it's hilarious.

I didn't think of the Baldwin brother's reference, but it's good. Though Alec is obviously less of a **** up than his brother Stephen, he's still an absolutely psychotic parent, so I probably wouldn't want to compare our university to him. Posted 08/08/2007 6:31 PMReply
