Battle of the Sexes in Science: Title IX Dispute

Battle of the Sexes in Science: Title IX Dispute

The New York Times reported that Title IX, offering gender parity in academic institutions, will be extended to the field of science.

As discussed earlier this year, women are not as visible in the fields of physics and chemistry. There have been efforts to draw more women into these fields, but they aren't necessarily interested in taking jobs in those sectors. The new investigation has provoked interviews with faculty members and students in science departments at Columbia, M.I.T, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Maryland.

Sifting through the campus science population hasn't been an easy task, the Title IX compliance research has caused a bit of a toss up. Bouncing around ideas like setting quotas, which, in any case, never solves anything in the arena of gender politics.

Dry "female inclusion" is never a solution to a social problem, especially one that hasn't been directly pinpointed. The lingering gap between males and females has remained unsolved, even BusinessWeek reported continued gender disparity in salaries.

The Title IX battle is on!

We'll never know who will be the victor -- though I put my faith in the contenders without penises.
