Graduation Will Be on the Diag: The End of the Saga, Hopefully

Graduation Will Be on the Diag: The End of the Saga, Hopefully
I can't foresee any problems with this.

After a long, bitter, utterly stupid battle, the official location for commencement has been announced. And this would seem to be the final decision because at this point all of us students have had the fight drained out of us by the blinding incompetence of U officials, which was not the case when we originally protested Rhynocerous stadium as the "official location."

In a 2 to 1 margin, the Diag beat out Elbel field in a survey that was surprisingly simple compared to its predecessor. This does seem like a rather good option, given the "impossibility" of having graduation at the Big House. When you hear the plan however, things start to be a bit sketchy.

The "cons" section of the Diag proposal says things like "The ground, including most grass areas, will be covered with plywood and other material to ensure a level surface for seating." Like, isn't the point of having graduation outside to see, um, nature? Are we going to put plastic over the trees in case anyone has allergies? Other cons include the fact that only 25% of guests will actually be able to see the ceremony, the unavailability of parking anywhere remotely close to central campus and preparation for the ceremony will severely crunk up your walk to class for about three weeks.

Man, I can't wait to walk that plywood to get my diploma.

Side note: Sorry I haven't been posting as frequently this week, but I've come down with what appears to be a hybrid of the Bird Flu and Super Aids and it's possible I may be dead tomorrow. You guys have kept me entertained with your pre-party partner comments though.

Im happy that graduation isnt going to be at EMU, but im not dragging my family to the diag so my 80 year old grandma cant watch me graduate from behind some tree.
All this "construction" to make the ground flat, just another way the university wastes our money.

The university has totally "Mallett'ed" this whole situation.

Sincerely, Andy

yea, why the deuce is the flag at half mast every other day? it gives you the same sentimental value that getting a gold star did when you answered something right in 1st grade..until you realized everybody else had the same ****ing star. Posted 02/10/2008 9:44 PMReply

yea JQ, can we get you to blog about the ****ing weather? I mean god damn, how much colder can it get?

Somehow, somewhere, and in some kind of fashion, Travis Radina (Lib. Fr.) is responsible for this.

So, apparently the person we should really be blaming is Art Urban. He said that he hates our #1 in the nation Hockey Team. Filthy Bastard.
