DKE alum George W. shows how to work magic with the ladies DKE-style. I bet AXO would have said yes to him.
Welcome back from spring break everyone. Presumably, if you’re reading this you’re not dead, so congrats on surviving a week straight of drinking tequila on a beach or a week straight of boredom sitting at home doing nothing – either way, an impressive feat. I’m sure the spring break stories will come trickling through soon enough, but until then I figured I’d give you a little welcome back present with another installment of Michigan Greek Mythology.
Today we’re talking DKE, pronounced “Deeeeeek” to those who don’t know. DKE is one of those frats that I initially really didn’t know anything about when I started this site, so my impressions have largely been shaped through my friend’s stories and what I’ve seen on here on OTR.
DKE is one of those frats that boasts a rich history, but unlike most of the others, can actually back it up. I think something like five or six presidents have been in DKE including Umich’s own Gerald Ford and of course everyone’s favorite gunslinger, George W. As impressive as that is, that doesn’t make them the coolest frat around here, as judging by their #10 spot on my list. To be fair, they probably should be at #8 above ShadyPhi and maaaybe Chi Phi, but that’s as high as I’m willing to go.
Anyways, my quick first impressions of the house were just a few B-school dorks I knew from here and there and then the various kind-of-alright-but slightly-awkward kids in class. Upon further digging I found one truly hilarious story about how DKE once gave a kid from State a bid when he was here partying for the weekend. I’m sure they’ll vehemently deny that, but hey, now it’s on the internet, so it must be true.
My other impressions come from OTR itself. There are a number of comments and things I’ve seen that are singing DKE's praises. I have a sneaking suspicion that many of this comes from DKE brothers themselves, which I will grant them is a clever way to try and boost their rep. If not a bit sad. Take this comment on the Pre-Party shuffle post:
“it's sad that axo didn't choose dke cause most of those guys are legit and throw amazing parties. i know for sure they're going to ask adpi after break and those girls would be stupid if they didn't chose them over chi phi (ewww). kinda wish they asked my house but at least we're invited to their their tahitian weekend!!!”
Like, come on. I’m not buying it. It definitely comes off like a guy doing an impression of a dumb sorority girl (although if you are that sorority girl, my sincerest apologies). I do believe this and other comments have been planted by DKE, which gives the distinct impression that they’re simply trying too hard, and that might describe the house in general. I guess I'll give them an A for effort though. How come I wasn’t invited to Tahitian weekend?
Campus rep: 5/10
Douche factor: 5/10
Update: Guess they weren't in the b-school, but dorks nonetheless.

way to talk shit about 2 of your brothers in one post Posted 03/03/2008 2:04 PMReply
I feel like its a little unnatural that you're so obsessed with the Greek system when you're not even a part of it, especially when your posts aren't even funny anymore. why are making fun of someone for caring about his own fraternity, when the real question is...why the hell do you care? Posted 03/03/2008 2:15 PMReply
and yes adpi can drink you under the table and then pass out or go home... those girls have to be the trashiest girls in the greek system Posted 03/03/2008 2:46 PMReply
This post was legit for DKE, I mean, really, there's not too much to say about them. Posted 03/03/2008 4:24 PMReply
although maybe their fall rush of only 7 boys should say SOMETHING about their house... Posted 03/03/2008 5:23 PMReply
look.act.speak.
and their parties suck. Posted 03/03/2008 11:42 PMReply
Granted, their parties aren't always the ones that bring out our house in the fullest force, they really have yet to disappoint the girls that go.
Not huge fratty rage parties, but not boring either. Posted 03/03/2008 11:59 PMReply
-Not in DKE Posted 03/04/2008 12:52 PMReply
How did ben get a bid anyways? isnt the idea of greek life to try and look cool? Stravstivastdon doesnt seem very cool Posted 03/04/2008 5:11 PMReply
Yeah, they aren't nearly as cool as the lead singer's dad's dealership is. Posted 03/04/2008 5:53 PMReply

gay sex == pike > dke Posted 03/06/2008 12:45 PMReply
it seems you've out-tooled yourself. props.
your paragraph reeks of trying way too hard and it alone should show the lovely ladies of ADPi they'd regret choosing Chi Phi over DKE Posted 03/06/2008 2:39 PMReply
niceeee bro.
and DKE just asked AXO cause of greek week partners Posted 03/06/2008 2:41 PMReply
And by "highlight" I mean "amusing sideshow."

Three years ago Chi Phi beat out DKE (barely) for pregame, when it was thought that chi phi was gonna have a house on oakland and dke just had their house...
Two years ago DKE beat chi phi for pregaming with DG. DKE had a state street house then.
This year, DKE has reclaimed a state street house and the race looks to be HEATED Posted 03/06/2008 5:52 PMReply
If you begin your post by saying "i'm in a top sorority," you are not in a top sorority. Or you're a dude. Posted 03/06/2008 7:29 PMReply
chi phi throws more/bigger parties, but that's probably due to location and the fact that i've seen tons of brothers basically waiting outside pike to grab the girls who are leaving. dke had tahitian weekend now, which was a pretty good time but NOWHERE near its hype level.
dke wins because the boys are more attractive, but that's like saying pi phi is more attractive than agd... it's true... but at that point, it doesn't matter. Posted 03/09/2008 4:45 PMReply

adpi just gets fat from being sloppy whored out drinkers Posted 03/11/2008 03:56 AMReply

then got ****ed by an agd. Posted 03/11/2008 08:14 AMReply
second it could be that lots of boys in that house already have girlfriends and don't need to rape girls to prove they can get some Posted 03/11/2008 3:45 PMReply
Most fraternity members are business majors (at least nationally), and this metaphor is a learning experience, much like the pledge term. I'm not saying I agree with treating pledges like "bitches." I think there is plenty of constructive work that could be done in a pledge term. I hate chapters that force pledges to be their cleaning service (including my own). Pledge term should be about learning, not just the histories, but how to interact with other people and basic leadership principles. Something schools don't teach are interpersonal skills or leadership qualities. Fraternities offer that, as well as basic small business practices. Each chapter is basically a franchise of a large national chain. Pledge term is the time to earn the respect and prove your a worthy business associate (as well as a friend).
I will acknowledge the Sigep "Sigma Challenge" deal is basically a year long pledge term, except they are already brothers. I don't agree with it because I think it takes longer than 3-4 weeks on campus to really get to know freshman and call them my brother. Then again I'm sure Sigep probably faces a decent turnover rate. I imagine they have to deactivate dead weight occasionally. Posted 03/13/2008 07:50 AMReply
DKE is a terrible,terrible frat Posted 03/15/2008 06:43 AMReply
tahitian was not even good
sig ep still sucks more though Posted 03/15/2008 10:33 AMReply
then why aren't either one of you pre-gaming with one? Posted 03/18/2008 4:17 PMReply
PIKE and FIJI routinely party with alpha phi and tridelt yet have no chance of landing them for pre party@ Anonymous: Posted 03/18/2008 5:09 PMReply
seriously though chi phi sucks, dke sucks, and adpi sucks. so who cares? Posted 03/18/2008 8:47 PMReply
and the hot to ugly ratio is like 1/7
(but i'd still take them over chi phi any day) Posted 03/20/2008 6:04 PMReply
