New York Film Critics Betray Heath Ledger

New York Film Critics Betray Heath Ledger

On Wednesday the New York Film Critics Circle announced their top picks for this year.

Surprisingly, and more than anything, stupidly they announced that Josh Brolin was the recipient of  "Best Male Supporting Actor."

What the hell?

Now, I know that some people will argue that Heath Ledger does not necessarily deserve an Oscar just because he died, and aside from the new Terry Gilliam movie that's coming out with a partially finished performance from Ledger, his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight was his final performance.

You can think that all you want, but you're wrong.

I'm not trying to take away from Brolin's performance in Milk.  I saw the movie.  He was fantastic, playing the role of the closeted political official.  It was subtle, there was depth, but it wasn't the Joker.

Heath Ledger made the Dark Knight.  I liked Aaron Eckhart and Gary Oldman, but they were not the glue that held the movie together.  It was Ledger.
