I really don’t like making personal attacks when it comes to writing for OTR but I can’t say nothing when my colleague and I get improperly called out. The call-out received from the Michigan Review was actually two weeks ago, but news travels slowly when no one gives a sh*t. For the sake of her anonymity and the fact that her name appears at the top of the linked article, we will refer to the author of the story as Krittani Bagan. So Krittani, if I may dissect a few of your statements.
“The fact of the matter is that every student has an opinion (most likely passionate) about the Greek system at U-M. The only thing that makes Tassi's and Ahor's opinion different is that they have a large medium (through OTR) to express their views to the thousands of students on campus.”
This is a blog. You can do it, anyone can do it. No one went around Michigan Campus putting up advertisements for college OTR. When Paul and I started writing two summers ago we would have maybe 30 viewers per post, probably just people we told about the site. Word trickled along and we created our own medium, so don’t talk about how it’s unfair that our opinions have a medium “through OTR”. OTR’s Michigan site has medium through us (though mostly Paul, I won’t contest that). If people wanted to read your opinions they would and you’d have your medium. Don’t blame us because people like to hear what we have to say.
“After Bid Day, another writer known as "AHor," who is allegedly in Alpha Epsilon Pi, created a list ranking all of the 2008 sorority pledge classes. Of course, the ranking was based upon votes, leaving little to say about accuracy or fairness.”
Firstly, it’s cute that you have to “allege” that I’m in AEPi, it’s not that hard to figure out if you chose to do the slightest bit of research (i.e asking one of your next door neighbors) before printing the article. Secondly, no, I did not create a list for the top sorority pledge classes; it was frats and sororities as wholes. And thirdly, through your article you talk about how there is no ranking and it’s about finding the right fit. What is it exactly that you have to say about the “accuracy and fairness” of my OTR Readers’ list? If you think it’s inaccurate then obviously you have an opinion as to who should be ranked where, despite claiming it’s only about “fit”. Contradict much?
“It is time to know more of the truth about Greek life from someone who knows - not someone who party-hopped at fraternities because he probably wished he were in one. We can only hope that OTR will fade into irrelevance until next fall when rankings begin again and Tassi once again shows all of us how envious he is of Greeks.”
What’s more unbiased than someone from the outside looking in? Are you implying that you are the “someone who knows”? If the things Paul wrote about each fraternity and sorority didn’t have truth to them then no one would read it or be interested in the first place. I’m also pretty sure that I can speak for Paul when I say he doesn’t and never wanted to be a Greek and certainly isn’t envious. If he was a Greek he probably couldn’t have the status now where he is well known by a majority of them. The last one is for you readers out there:
“the only thing OTR captures is bored students who spend their library breaks insulting people through anonymous posts.”
Discuss…
Oh, and Krittani, I just increased your article's views ten fold, feel free to thank me later.

Stumble It

And I, on the other hand, have no problem specifically calling out someone who wrote an entire attack article about me, so Krittani should expect her unscrambled name in the headline of a post soon. Posted 10/28/2008 2:26 PMReply
In case you haven't noticed, this school is filled with some pretty damn intelligent people (there definitely are exceptions but on the whole people aren't stupid)how about you give your readers, the people who make your paper more then hobo toilet paper, a little more credit then essentially calling them sheep who have no minds of their own. anyways, the subject is taboo, plus the stereotypes wouldn't be offensive if they were completely untrue. why would Tri-Delt care if they were called bitchy sluts if a majority of them weren't, or Kappa care if they are called snotty, or A chi o called chubby, or sigma kappa called alcoholics or alpha phi called SAE's play things. Though not every girl in the sorority are going to fit the stereotype, someone somewhere did something to make people think that. That alone has some basis. Posted 10/28/2008 4:50 PMReply

On a side note: AHor do something original. Honestly what made paul good was that he was this random GDI that made these crazy claims. This blog is done untill you can find someone to actually replace paul. Until then you can find me on posh. Posted 10/28/2008 8:20 PMReply
A few things. First of all, yes you're right I was reluctant to give opinions about Greek Life (in fact I never have), but there is a reason. Seeing as how I am a member of the Greek community, I don't have the freedom that Paul does to talk about Greek stuff. Paul had to leave the Michigan Daily (temporarily) after he was revealed as JQ. I wasn't and am not prepared to have the IFC come down on me (and my house) for whatever violations I might impose by making my own "crazy claims" as you suggest.
I also don't see how you think my future advice to Greeks post was Paul's message. I'm pretty sure his message has always been somewhere along the lines of "Greeks are egotistical tools who I can manipulate". I don't think he's made that a secret.
I'm also not sure why "This blog is done until you can find someone to actually replace paul" when Paul still writes for it. He's not exactly missing. I'm also unsure of how exactly I'm not original. Just because I don't make crazy claims I'm unoriginal? If I was making claims then it would only be seen as mimicking Paul, which is legitimately unoriginal. He does his shtick, I do mine, if you really don't like it feel free not to read.
And to the last comment- Paul and I are both from Michigan, wtf are you talking about? Posted 10/28/2008 11:22 PMReply
Honestly bad writing is your thing? Im surprised the review put your name in there. It's not like you did anything. Paul's thing is stories that get people interested. Your's are semidecent. The summer polls-actually were good. However no follow up and you could have writen them yourself. Don't get fiesty. I understand now that the list is gone and you guys have been called out it isn't as much fun.
Check the sig ep page he says the same thing you did about not being too cool for GDI friends.
And when I say you need to find someone else, I mean that since paul is out of aa he loses legitimacy no matter how many spies he has. Houses change identies you know that as well as anyone else. A senior is going to have a diferent oppinion than a freshmen. I'll cut to the chase. OTR isn't as much fun. I mean look at yourself. You are defending against the review? You aren't in a paper for a reason. Play by your own rules. You sound like a bitch.
