There are few restaurants in Ann Arbor that can best described as “Ann Arbor”. This can basically be defined as being hippie, shady places that still somehow feel relatively safe. Fleetwood Diner and Cafe Dominick's are two of these places. Another is Red Hot Lovers.

RHL does one thing very well, and that's Chicago Style hot dogs. Picture a regular hot dog, and then think of it as being about twice as good. As an added bonus, you get the charming atmosphere of a place that looks like it hasn't been fixed up or decorated since the '80s.
 
In general, there's a golden culinary rule to remember in Ann Arbor: If the establishment looks like it might not be up to code, it's probably good for tasty cheap food. You probably won't get sick, but if you do remember it's completely your fault and has nothing to do with this honest, upstanding blog.
