Rivalry Heats Up as Wolverines/Spartans Exchange Pleasantries

Brandon Graham has Guarensheed it....

Michigan State has lost 6 consecutive games to the Wolverines, 8 in a row at The Big House. The last time Michigan State did win was back in 2001 when T.J. Duckett caught a touchdown pass after a questionable clock stoppage at 0:01 from a spike on the previous play. So you’d think Michigan State’s once in a decade opportunity has lit some extra fire under their butts going into the game at 6-2 and Michigan a measly 2-5. That’s just the beginning, let’s not forget what happened last year in East Lansing when Mike Hart referred to the Spartans as their “little brother” who Michigan let back into the game only to beat them in the end. MSU coach Mike Dantonio fired back, "If they want to mock us, I'm telling them, it's not over. ... It will never be over here. It's just starting". Sounds like the kind of statement one doesn’t forget about after just one year.

Oh but wait, there’s more. Brandon Graham spoke out this week about the upcoming game, “I don’t think we are going to ever lose to State. I’m feeling like we’re not gonna to lose to State because that’s just — we’re not going to lose to State.” Thank you Brandon, but your team better back your sh*t up. Barring a miraculous victory at Ohio State, this is the most important game in a horrible season. We lost to Notre Dame, we lost to Penn State, Ohio State is going to be another very tough match-up. If Michigan State wins this year we’re going to hear about it until the Saturday of 2009 that we play them once again.

I can’t remember the last Michigan/MSU game (in Ann Arbor no less) where MSU was favored in the spread (4 points). This season has been brutal for the hardcore Michigan football fans. Hearing people in green sweatshirts cheering/taunting/throwing shit on the walk back from the stadium would be devastating. Seeing a few hundred State kids getting arrested for rioting/couch-burning in East Lansing afterward might help ease the pain a bit though.

Any thoughts on which riot would be worse: State winning for the first time in years or State losing against the worst Michigan team in the last decade? Posted 10/22/2008 5:45 PMReply

No matter how bad UofM is, State is used to losing to us, so I'm going to have to say the riot after an MSU win would be larger. Posted 10/22/2008 6:44 PMReply
