Solar Car Challenge in Australia Looming for UM Participants

The Panasonic World Solar Challenge will be taking place on October 21st. It’s an 1800 mile race through Australia that takes place every 2 years. Michigan students will be entering “the continuum”, as seen in the video (if you can get over the music). This car may not look very fast but it travels at well over 70 miles per hour. The Michigan team’s last appearance resulted in a third place finish (they had two other 3rd place finishes in the past), so this year they are changing strategies and using mirrors. They believe that mirrors will help harness the solar energy from the sun and allow the car to run faster and more efficiently. With an innovation like this, Michigan looks to take first place in the challenge. If not, at least it won’t be Ohio State that beats us.
