Today we examine Jeff (father) and Reese (son) Mangray, the owner/managers of Studio 4. They were in agreement with two Asian organizations, the Chinese Student Association and the Filipino American Student Association, to host a fundraiser. The agreement was to split the money made on the cover charge at the front door on the night of the event. However, the owners of Studio 4 supposedly kept a tally of Asian looking people and when asked about their cut at the end of the night by the organizations’ presidents, Jeff Mangray was only planning on compensating them for “the 50 Asians they brought in”. Far be it from any one individual from two large Asian student organizations to have one friend of Caucasian descent.
In the argument that pursued outside, the son, Reese, allegedly spat on FASA president Ashley Manzano and, according to a source outside the daily, referred to them as “skanky little b*tches”. In addition, Mangray supposedly called and left threatening messages saying they don’t know who they’re dealing with, the power he has, and how he will get their organizations disbanded. Since the Mangrays are of Indian descent, they have also apparently used the “how can we be racist if we’re Asian” card. I suppose Hitler wouldn’t be considered racist if he had said “No you guys, I had a Jewish ancestor, it’s cool”.
The Mangrays have apparently also gotten in contact with MSA about the situation. MSA announced earlier its full support for the Asian organizations, so we’ll see how much student government *ss they’re willing to kiss to prevent a school-wide boycott of the immaculate club that is Studio 4.

Regardless, I will ask you all not to include the names of "the two clients" in your comments or they will be removed. Posted 11/26/2008 11:42 AMReply
They should be worried about the fact that they have more violations with the Liquor Control Commission than any bar in Ann Arbor; not internet postings. I'm sure their lawyers have their hand's full what with the DUI's, and assaults and everything. These are public records by the way, don't waste your time complaining. Try getting your act together.
Since their people are reading this I will say this much. You're no Tony Soprano. The KARMA train is coming rumbling down 4th avenue. Have fun punching that ticket. Posted 11/26/2008 3:52 PMReply
like, "those ****ers can't drink for shit. next time those lightweights should sign a contract."
actually, idiot, the two orgs did sign a contract stipulating 50% of the cover charge collected at the door. which has nothing to do with how much anyone can drink. Posted 11/26/2008 10:14 PMReply

1. Hire a PR team....
2. Pay people for the cover you owe them. Or whatever other money you owe people who work for you... I hear it's alot.
3. Stop letting 16 year olds pass out around a bunch of shady dudes.
4. Stop having shootings/stabbings/fights/ect...
5. Just because you can out spend the AADA and drag on your case for losing your license does not mean you should be open. Have some pride and fix your place or sell it...

Regardless, Studio 4 is no more shady than ANY other nightclub that caters to students, especially in this city.
Are you aware that the 17 year old in Studio 4 used a well made fake ID that passed a legal electronic ID check? The kind that you scan the card with? Heaven forbid someone take responsibility for their own choices.....the 17 year old knew damn well she wasn't supposed to be there.
For all the bad publicity Studio 4 gets, it's no worse than anyone else. The city has very much had it out for Studio 4 for a long time, mainly because they've responded negatively to the AAPDs racist harassment of the club owners and staff.
Oh and consequently, nearly every single event that involved a fight or altercation at the club were on "Hip Hop" or "Urban" nights, where nearly 100% of the patrons are dark skinned.
Oh wait, are you too afraid to point the finger at THEM because it might look racist? Facts are facts.
"Hip-Hop Night" was why Cafe OZ got shut down, and the reason that happened is because Studio 4 decided they didn't want the headache the promoter for that event was bringing them. Cafe OZ goes out of business, and hip hop night went back to studio 4.......and oh look, the problems started happening again.
When will people stop pointing fingers at the clubs, and start accepting IT'S THE BAD PATRONS that are causing the problems? Posted 12/04/2008 12:21 PMReply
Are you sure that for the AAPD its not "Facts are Facts" when it comes to Studio having under-aged drinkers, fights breaking out, and guns in your club? Posted 12/04/2008 12:56 PMReply
Studio 4 is very low class, stay away from there. Ann Arbor should clean up its streets and close that place. Posted 01/24/2009 12:32 PMReply
