The Department of Public Safety is reportedly preparing to draft a new Use of Force policy that will clarify exactly what sort of force DPS officers are allowed to use against students. One of the main goals of this re-written policy is to avoid a taser incident reminiscent of the ones that occurred at UCLA and Florida earlier this year.
Cracking students' heads open is also on the list of things to avoid for DPS officers. Said DPS Cpl. Royce Myers:
"A section of the current policy states, 'Striking someone on the head or neck with an ASP baton potentially constitutes use of deadly force' (...)There is no, 'it potentially constitutes... It does constitute the use of deadly force."
Ya think...?
