“Indie Scenesters & Missy Misdemeanors”
Wah-ta-ta-ta, ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta, party so good, I say “blah, blah, blah”
Description: We’ve got a music thing going on in this one. The slinky-looking, I-listen-to-bands-You’ve-never-heard-of-that-are-super-cool-until-You’ve-actually-heard-of-them guys and gals will bring their obscure taste to mash-up with the bombastic, in-yo-face, I’m-not-sure-what-she's-really-talking-about crunk of Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliot.
Indie Scenesters:
Dress Code - tight jeans, converse all stars, classic rock band t-shirts under jackets or zip-up hoodies – just about anything from American Apparel; bandanas in places bandanas aren’t usually worn (i.e. wrist, forearm, belt). More here or here.
Bonus Points – one of those sweet shirts from the music video for “D.A.N.C.E.” by Justice.
Missy Misdemeanors:
Dress Code – Any of those weird Adidas clothes that are absolutely ridiculous but you’ve secretly always wanted to buy anyway. Bandanas also work here.
Bonus Points – that big inflatable trash bag suit from the music video from “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” or just bring a bunch of little kids who can do sick break dance moves.
Drinks: Pabst Blue Ribbon, Freak Show Shot, Freak Baby Shot, crunk juice...
Location: anywhere, although some alley that’s outside of some beat down music club with a dirty yet vintage/funky aesthetic is preferred.
Music:
- Choice cuts from Missy, including “She’s a Bitch,” “Gossip Folks,” “Work It,” and “Get Ur Freak On.”
- Selected tunes from such indie bands like The Strokes, The Shins, Franz Ferdinand, Spoon, TV on the Radio...
- Some awesome mash-ups of Missy Elliot and Indie Rock, courtesy of The Hood Internet...
More mash-ups here.
