Trading Sexual Favors For Regular Favors: Everyone's Doing It

CNN’s back at it and this time they’re reporting on the trend of bartering sex for stuff.

It’s fun, it’s cheap and it’s easy… really easy.

And surprisingly, swapping a sack session for goods and services is more common than you might think. Earlier in the summer, a woman was arrested in a Kentucky motel for allegedly selling sex for a gas card.

But even college students are in on the deal. A recent study of 475 University of Michigan undergraduates found that 27 percent of single men and 14 percent of single women had offered someone a favor or gift in return for sex. On the other side, 5 percent of the men and 9 percent of the women had also tried to give away sex in exchange for some free help.

CNN explains:

Although they weren't hard up for resources, the students surveyed "recognized the value of this socioeconomic currency system," says Daniel Kruger, research scientist at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, who published his findings in the April issue of "Evolutionary Psychology."

"It's more about getting what you want than getting what you need," he says. "Unless you think everyone needs a $200 Louis Vuitton bag."

Hmmm… maybe the economy would be in a lot less trouble if everyone signed onto this “socioeconomic currency system.”

And just to be clear, this "socioeconomic currency system" is just a key word for prostitution, right?
