U Michigan Vice President in the Arctic

ABC News covered the Artic expedition of college students this summer. The students have dreams of saving the earth, one glacier at a time. The most notable attendee was student government Vice President, John Monaghan.

Ben Wessel, 19-year-old Middlebury College student, is a self-professed environmental freak that took the opportunity to trek around the Artic along with J. Monaghan, a junior at the University of Michigan. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) funded the trip, and over two weeks 17 students explored the impact of the melting glaciers and studied options in containing climate change.

The trip rightfully titled “The Voyage of the Future,” didn’t only include college students from the United States, but had representatives from Japan, Russia, and Sweden. The green movement has permeated every part of the media and our consciousness on a grand scale, and it’s no surprise that college students in our nation, and beyond, are making an effort to defeat the impacts of global warming.

Even media directed at the 17-28 year-olds, like the “Think MTV” campaign, tries to give college students more options than sobering up from last nights all night drinking binge.

And it’s something to think about.
