Yeah, that pretty much sums it up...
There’s been some feuding after a Greek-charged week here at Michigan OTR, but as bad as some people may make us look, Greeks and non-Greeks alike can always look a step further down the totem pole at our little brothers and sisters at Michigan State University. For those out-of-staters who may not know their rep, here’s their motto in a nutshell: You’re not a true Michigan State student unless you get hit with tear gas at least once during your attempt at graduation. While the city of Ann Arbor was hitting up BTB and Pizza House after a day of hashing, East Lansing took it upon itself to do most of the bashing at the 21st unofficial Cedar Fest (banned in ’87 after disruptive parties).
There were reportedly 3,000-4,000 in attendance and the group decided to riot after an MIP was handed out to someone. I’m sure whoever it was felt pretty special in bed that night thinking that 3,000 people rioted just for his honor (keep in mind he goes to State). But in reality, Michigan State was just itching for some media coverage (they got ours). This is probably due to the lack of success in their basketball program over the past 3 seasons, which happens to be the only thing that ever gets them positive attention. Of course they make it a priority to burn down a good chunk of their city to negate that shred of a positive light if they ever do make it to the Final Four.
Students were chanting “we want tear gas” in the streets and had their wishes granted by officers. Last time I checked, tear gas is pretty painful, they might as well have asked to be sodomized by their batons. One of the students was quoted saying “People were more excited about being a part of something”. It’s great that the sense of togetherness and achievement at MSU stems from throwing beer bottles in thick crowds, lighting dumpsters on fire and assaulting police officers. In the end, 52 arrests were made, 28 were Michigan State students. They didn’t quite surpass the last official Cedar Fest in 1986 that resulted in 85 arrests and $24,000 in damages. But don’t hang your heads Spartans, I’m sure you’ll outdo yourselves next year. Ah-Ooh!

I always love seeing white trash at State: the Fox-wearing, weird guy piercing, nicest thing girls have is from Hollister types. I think I'll log onto facebook this afternoon and figure out who I won't hire in the next year or so. Posted 04/07/2008 04:21 AMReply
Please try to refrain from repeating this mistake in the future, Ahor. Thanx. Posted 04/07/2008 10:40 AMReply
2. most of the people at cedar fest were there to have a good time, not to start a riot. it was not officially a riot until almost 2 in the morning.
3. there are too many people at uofm that are scared to ruin their perfect little future their parents set up for them, so if anyone tried to have something like cedar fest at uofm, no one would have enough balls to actually come.
4. there were a lot of mips handed out that night, one more wasn't what caused the rioting.
5. last, at least everyone at cedar fest was together in the riot, their own school was not fighting each other like stupid greeks. so yes, maybe it is lame that "People were more excited about being a part of something," but hey, at least they were not fighting their own school.
suck on that, pricks. Posted 04/07/2008 2:51 PMReply

Not much unlike the sucking you'll be doing underneath your U of M boss's desk after you graduate. Posted 04/07/2008 6:12 PMReply
He'd be better off going under the desk for a Northwestern grad. Posted 04/07/2008 10:26 PMReply
"last, at least everyone at cedar fest was together in the riot, their own school was not fighting each other like stupid greeks."---that is just stupid little drama, and it really is not as big of a deal as it is made out to be on any of these comment boards. stop by for a michigan football pregame and you'll see what we can do when we unite. That's because we have something to be pretentious about, loser.
Seriously, just kill yourself. You're wasting money and squandering the time that would be better spent trying to get a foot in the door in janitorial services for your town's public school system. At least your basketball team is good, right? Posted 04/08/2008 12:49 PMReply
GO BLUE. Posted 04/08/2008 7:09 PMReply
That would be a worthy cause for throwing some bottles! Maybe next time... Posted 04/11/2008 05:05 AMReply
