The world is about ready to implode with strange bloodlines. Turns out, it’s a small world after all. Last year, the press found that Lynne Cheney is a distant relative of Barack Obama. Now the people at Ancestry.com have discovered that the moose-hunting, syntax-mangling, doggone republican running mate Sarah Palin is the tenth cousin of Princess Diana and a distant relative of FDR, the fifth cousin of John McCain’s hero, “a guy named Teddy Roosevelt.”

According to the Telegraph:

John McCain's running mate in the US elections is supposedly a 10th cousin of Princes William and Harry's late mother.

Mrs Palin, the Governor of Alaska, is also related to Democrat President Franklin D Roosevelt, the man who steered the US through the Great Depression and World War II.

According to research experts Ancestry.com, Governor Palin is the ninth cousin once removed of the man whose New Deal scheme is widely credited to have re-invigorated the US economy in the 1930s.

Their common ancestor is Rev John Lothrop, who came to Massachusetts in 1634.

Alright, so maybe Palin is related to Princess Diana and FDR, but so are humans and chimps. Problematically though, while FDR inspired Americans to limit a president to serving only two terms, a vice president can serve as many terms as they are appointed. With the latest Gallup poll estimating Barack Obama’s lead at eleven points, however, let’s hope we don’t need to worry about Princess Diana’s tenth cousin overstaying her welcome in the White House.
