What Umich is Watching: Re-runs, A la Writers Strike
Shows on MTV will have an easier time adjusting to the strike

“Live from New York it’s… it’s… ah shit, we really do need those writers back”. Sadly, this realization was not made by the producers when negotiations with writers finally ended last Sunday. What this means is that late-night and daily shows will be airing re-runs (no new Leno, Conan, Stewart, Colbert, Kimmel or Letterman) until negotiations are reached.

It gets worse. For those of you who actually watch soaps, those will start airing re-runs by the end of the month. And the biggest hit will come in January when prime time television would have to stop airing their new shows. 24 and Lost would be postponed and Heroes would have to cut its season short.

So what would remain on TV? Reality shows. By February, American Idol would probably be playing 4 hours a day and get picked up for re-runs on TBS and the CW. If you’re not into that, you could watch some of your old favorite shows on TV-links. Oh wait, that just got shut down too. It’s curious to see how MTV copes. What will they do without their amazing and clever writing staff for shows like ‘Parental Control’ and ‘Next’? Then again you don’t really need professional writers to have a “father” say in regard to his son’s girlfriend, “Oh, that girl’s got a fine ass booty” in front of his “wife”.

Thank G-d for Sports.
