YouTube Removing ALL Copyrighted Music from Its User Videos

YouTube Removing ALL Copyrighted Music from Its User Videos

In a move that's sure to piss absolutely everyone off, YouTube is cracking down on users who use copyrighted music in their videos, which is of course, all of them.

They disable the sound, and have a little copyright violation message at the bottom of the video; check this one out as an example. This is even videos with only a couple thousand views, so essentially YouTube is pissing on the masses with this latest censorship effort.

Think about every YouTube video you've ever seen that has copyrighted music. It's a pretty good chunk, yes? If YouTube is serious about that, there is a very significant chunk of videos that violate this rule. for example, did the Evolution of Dance guy pay royalties in order to be allowed to dance to all those copyrighted songs in the video? Hmm, looks like a violation to me, better disable the sound on your most popular video ever.

So how will the YouTube community react to this? Well, I predict it wont be pretty. I bet a lot of funny things done with the "mute" button however. More on this as it develops.
